You can learn a lot from a person by looking through their closet. You might find a graphic tee declaring #blacklivesmatter, (a movement which I support to 100%), and you might find a kånken backpack, full of the art supplies. Maybe you didn't even know that this poor person liked painting before you stalked them! (( If you ever want to actually go through someone's wardrobe, get permission. Or you might be forced to wear orange jumpsuits for a year or two.)

But unless you want to wear a graphic tee that declares your name, age, sexuality, religious beliefs and/or occupation, you might have a hard time to show exactly who you are with clothes. That beautiful pink dress which your favorite tv character wore in last months episode might come across as childish to someone who isn't an expert in Doctor Who wardrobe. (That's probably an outdated reference. I don't even know if doctor who's on anymore. Is it cancelled?)

So, how can one express themselves without giving to much information away, but not too little either?

1. In Swedish, we have this word. Lagom. I'm sure you've heard it. If not from your friend from Sthlm, then from a magazine. A lot of American and British websites picked up on it last year.

If you for some reason isn't familiar with the word, allow me to explain it to you. It lacks an equivalent in English, which is why it got so much attention in English speaking countries. It can roughly be translated to not too much, not too little. Which is what you should aim for, in dressing the way just you can pull of. Maybe you can paint your fingernails blue if that's your favorite color? And why not also go with a eyeshadow in the shade of "blueberry"? (Not sure if that's a shade. I made it up.)

Just don't wear ALL blue. You'll look like your either cosplaying or have escaped from that underland thing. (Look up the green English children, if you don't know what I'm talking about.)    (Photosource: www.justmylook.com)

2. Phone cases. Even though you don't technically wear your phone, you carry it around. 24/7, if you're anything like me. So why not use that to your advantage? Even if your rosegold phone in it's "natural" state is quite pretty, it isn't that personal. It looks like you just bought it. Or stole it. Like my mom did. God, that's a story I have to tell sometime. But, back to this blog post.

Phone cases are incredible. Incredibly cheap, and incredibly fun. Just think of a thing, and Google "*thing you just thought of* phone cases." I promise you at least a thousand results. Pick one which you like and, voila! You've personalized a thing you use every day.

3. Necklaces.

Wearing a necklace with a name on it is a bit weird. Someone either sees it and thinks: "Wow, that person's full of themselves." Or: "Is that person's partner trying to mark them as their own?" So, if you'd listen to me, don't ever wear one.

But necklaces, which aren't stating one's legal name, are actually personal. Sure, some people might just have seen a pretty one in a shop and bought it. But wearing that beautiful, gem-covered one which your grandmother gave to you, that's personal. Especially if your grandmother was a royal. (This one is talking shit to my friend Chrissy, who's grandmother was a countess. Start showing your title of, Chrissy.)

So, these were just three things you could think about doing, to make your outfits a bit more you. Sure, there are other things, like hand made skirts or semi-permanent hair colors. I encourage you to start ebing yourself, even if that means dying your hair green, or tattoing "I love marsmallows" on your wrist. (Please don't do that. Please.)

I hope this was helpfull for someone! Love, Ida.
